Let’s Go for a Walk Art Exhibit Mernie Buchanan. Majestic Happy Days, 2015; acrylic; 8x10 in; and Nancy Freeman. Peregrine Landing, 2016; acrylic; 16x12 in.

Nancy and Mernie have been creating art in Benicia for 45 years (that’s between us). Nancy Freeman’s colorful, geometric style has evolved from her roots as a textile and appliqué artisan. She observes Benicia-scapes with a sophisticated use of color and playful treatment of shapes and perspectives. Mernie Buchanan, on the other hand, has detoured from a twelve year interpretive exploration of museum masterpieces to painting things that make her happy while walking her chihuahua. Occasionally two artists will find their style, subjects and personalities dovetail, or goose-tail as the case may be. The Marilyn Citron O’Rourke Art Gallery at the Benicia Public Library proudly presents an early spring exhibit for 2016 - two mature painters offering a bright, happy look at the town they love.
