Light/Weight Alexis Arnold, Concentricretion III, 2015, 11x11x1.25"

EN EM Art Space Presents light/weight: Solo Exhibition of Works by Alexis Arnold May 9th – June 6th, 2015 Opening Reception: Saturday, May 9, 6:00 – 9:00 pm SACRAMENTO, CA (April 27th, 2015)—EN EM Art Space is pleased to present light/weight, a solo show of new sculpture by San Francisco based artist Alexis Arnold. Please join us on Saturday, May 9th, 6:00 – 9:00 pm for the opening reception and to meet the artist. light/weight is a kaleidoscopic exploration of optics, color, and material; a collection of freestanding and wall-mounted works using both light-interactive and lightweight materials. Through Arnold’s visionary eye these polychromatic materials become juxtaposed with “heft, gravity, and darkness, offering the viewer interactive and alternating perceptions of these stationary works as colors begin to shift with the changes in light.” light/weight provides a sensory chromatic experience that addresses color’s intrinsic reliance on light and individual perception. The works are composed of holographic vinyl, concrete, diffraction grating, cast acrylic and resin, auto body and spray paint, wood and more. Alexis Arnold is a San Francisco-based artist and educator whose crystallized book series has recently garnered her a lot of attention. Arnold’s work has been exhibited internationally, including the Aspen Art Museum, The New York Hall of Science, Bergdorf Goodman, Southern Exposure, and The Workshop Residence. Alexis’s work is included in collections in the libraries of SFMOMA, the University of Pittsburgh, and Virginia Commonwealth University, and has received review in Colossal, Hi-Fructose, BuzzFeed, Fast Company, The Paris Review, Redefine Magazine, and Beautiful/Decay. She holds an MFA in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute, as well as a BA in art from Kenyon College.
