As an artist, critic, educator, gallerist, and curator, Michelle Grabner brings an uncommon breadth of high-level art experience, yet much of it is couched in a “domestic, middle-class art practice.” Her visual art involves optically charged patterns, repetition, and material order akin to those found in rugs and fabric patterns. Grabner is co-founder, with husband Brad Killam, of the artist-run project space The Suburban (est. 1999) and the nonprofit exhibition space The Poor Farm (est. 2009). She is a corresponding editor for the quarterly art journal X-TRA, and her writing has been published in Artforum, Modern Painters, Frieze, Art Press, and Art Agenda, among other publications.
