Kimetha Vanderveen
At a glance, our fourth c2c/wc annex exhibition, nothing = everything, may read as a presentation of simplistic tranquility. However, first looks can be deceiving. For the patient viewer, this show, featuring artists Vincent Como, Kimetha Vanderveen, Suzanne Goldenberg, Lisa Hochstein, and Laurie Reid, holds dramatic potential. There is certainly a murmur in the room, a general dialog happening amongst the works, based on a common focus on the subtle relationships of the colors and materials within their construction. Although restrained, these gestures are anything but simple, quick, or easy. Instead, as the viewer’s sensitivity to this show progresses, it is the deftness of application that allows each piece to reach a crescendo of visual experience. The works included here remind us that despite how muddled and complicated the world is around us, there is also a considered dynamic grace that is accessible, if we only remember to strive for it.
