In 2017, Pro Arts will revisit the ideas of the Situationists International movement within the contemporary art context through exhibitions, performances, public programs, and publications. Turing’s Echo explores the age of digitization and its analogue response through repetition, as well as the processes by which artists support, sustain, and participate in the launch of each other's work. For our annual members’ exhibition, we invite artists to explore this theme through the idea of repetition. Beginning with the post-war, world-wide manufacturing boom, repetition became a tool in art as both commentary and critique of a changing society. From the serial works of Pop artists and the manufacturing techniques of many Minimalists, the prevalence of repeated forms and images directly responded to ideas of authenticity and ownership. Now faced with a new era of social change, Pro Arts invites artists to explore the age of digitization and the contemporary analogue response through repetition. Turing’s Echo asks artists to submit new media, sculpture, sound installation, and two-dimensional works as we explore what it means to be human in the new millennium. Pro Arts membership is required for participation. Membership is open to all. To join/renew online, please follow the link: http://www.proartsgallery.org/membership. Some direct benefits that come with all levels of Pro Arts Membership are: Member Flexible Hours, Member Centered Programs, Member Centered Digital Content, Member Connect E-News, free admission to many local and national museums including Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive, Oakland Art Museum and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and a $25 Gift Card to FLAX Art & Design. Submission Guidelines: - Work submitted should be recent (completed in the past two years). - Artists will be selected via a peer-review process. Those who submit work will be asked to review each other’s submissions and vote for their top ten. - Peer review instructions will be sent to participating artists after the call for entries closes. - All media accepted. - Submit an Artist Statement including a link to artist website if available. - Up to ten high-res images with description of work, (video/media/performance artists can submit links to online documentation). - All work should be labeled with title, medium, year, and a brief description of work/project on view. - Selected artists will have to provide their own installation materials and equipment.
