Radical Landscapes: Tasting Event with Amanda Eicher

In conjunction with the exhibition Radical Landscapes, artist Amanda Eicher will present a sensory tasting experience to explore how climate change might impact local agricultural practices and the taste of food and wine. Eicher’s socially based practice engages audiences’ palates on explorations in food, specifically looking at how recent environmental shifts—such as the severe fires and drought in the Napa Valley—effect the food we eat and the wine we drink.

Stemming from her collaborative work with the collective OPENrestaurant, Eicher presents Precursor (2016), a long-term research project at di Rosa launched on the occasion of Radical Landscapes. The work investigates the landscape surrounding di Rosa’s Gatehouse Gallery and engages with farmers and producers operating within it. Throughout the duration of the exhibition, a sculptural form acts as a preservation cabinet for objects and agricultural products (such as honey, cheese, and canned goods) to capture flavors that reflect the current moment, culminating in a public tasting. Join us for this rare opportunity to experience the local environment through taste and participate in a dialogue about climate change and its effect on the natural landscape.
