Realignments: Works on Paper Eleanor Wood "Realignments Series #8, 2014, watercolor and mixed media, 13" x 13"

A Londoner by birth, Eleanor Wood has been living in Central California since 2002 and divides her time between there and Norfolk in England. The distinct open and austere landscape of East Anglia and the California light have both had an impact on her work. Using a combination of media Eleanor initially works from the reverse side of the paper, gradually and obsessively building layers beneath the face of the work. When working on the “underneath” layers she is planning for and teasing out a resolved image on the surface. The first thing and usually the only thing the viewer sees is the surface, but the other layers, though barely visible, not only exist but are essential. Eleanor’s work is in the collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Crocker Museum Sacramento, and the University of the Arts, London. This is her 3rd solo show with Don Soker.
