Re:sound is an experimental music series focusing on exploring the relationship between forgotten spaces and the natural environment. The series takes place on the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve, a 215-acre park that formerly served as one of the first Naval Ammunition Depots.
The event is held in a concrete munitions storage magazine measuring 55'x100' with ceilings over 15'. The architecture of the building traps sound resulting in a prolonged reverberation.
The series will launch its first show in February 2015 as part of the San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival, celebrating the annual bird migration to the Bay.

Jim Haynes I rust things. Specifically, I focus on how decay parallels and relates to the perception of time when cycles of activity collapse into stasis. Sound and more recently video have emerged as central media for my current installations and performances. Drawing from shortwave radio static, electric field disturbances, surveillance camera observations, controlled feedback oscillations, and numerous textural scrapings, I manifest a broken minimalism through magnetic drones and ghostly projections. This engineering of disparate materials and media seeks to evince the unpredictability of decay and to bare witness to its inevitability.
[ruidobello] aka Jorge Bachmann works across a wide range from subtle "musique concrete" soundscapes to analog synth minimalism. Since the early 1980's he has been exploring the strange, unique and microcosmic sounds of everyday life, collecting field recordings and creating soundscapes meant for deep listening.
Michael Mersereau is a multidisciplinary media artist and experimental musician. His work experiments with materials of communication such as morse code, written and digital correspondence, cinema and radio broadcasts as a tool to create compositions of sound and light in the form of abstracted minimal melodramas.
Jen Boyd records sounds in her environment and arranges them into layered soundscapes. In these pieces, some sounds unfold naturally while others are processed. Jen uses a variety of microphones to explore textures and timbres. Many of her soundscapes seek to give depth to these delicate sounds.
Kevin Corcoran works with percussion, phonography and electronics to explore an open interest in sound as medium where texture and tone take precedence over rhythm and melody. His ongoing solo and collaborative work includes both improvised and composed music.
Born and raised in the wild state of Idaho, performing artist Gretchen Jude’s musical practice focuses on improvisatory interaction with her immediate environment.
Voicehandler, the duo of Jacob Felix Heule and Danishta Rivero, is an electroacoustic ensemble combining improvisation with original compositions. They perform with voice, percussion, and electronics.
Joe Cantrell a musician and multi-media artist specializing in sound art, installations, compositions and performances inspired by the implications and consequences of technological objects and practices. His work examines the incessant acceleration of technology and media production, its ownership, and the waste it produces.
J.Frede is a multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles who utilizes various mediums to create conceptually based work. Exploring ideas that deal with security, memory, natural phenomenon and perception, as well as site-specific works. Projects are strictly controlled by the guidelines of the concept that initiated their creation.
Note: This event takes place in a decommissioned military facility with limited seating and no heat. Please bring warm clothes. Please park along Railroad Avenue at the far south end of Mare Island and in the lot outside the Mare Island Nature Preserve Visitor Center.
