In honor of Rural Studio's 20th Anniversary, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson will be showcasing the completed works of the Rural Studio “20K House” during the First-Thursday Open Galleries event. The “20K House” is an ongoing program with a goal of creating a home for 20,000 dollars; addressing the need for affordable housing in Hale County, Alabama.
Founded by Samuel Mockbee and D.K. Ruth in 1993, The Rural Studio took a group of architecture students to rural West Alabama to give them a hands-on, educational experience, designing and building for an underserved population. Here, students put to practice the Rural Studio philosophy that everyone deserves good design.
Join us November 7th to see this unique collection of Architecture and Art on display, including Rural Studio "20K House" iterations, Photography by Timothy Hursley, Letterpress Posters by Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. and apprentices from their time at the Rural Studio (Mark Wise, Danny Wicke, and Sabina Nieto). Work will be available through donations to the Rural Studio.
Exhibit opens: Thursday, November 7th, from 5 – 8 pm.
