SF Camerawork, located at 1011 Market Street on the 2nd Floor, is the premier non-profit gallery in San Francisco for photography. Founded in 1974, the mission of the gallery is to encourage and support emerging artists and explore new directions and ideas in the photographic arts. Through exhibitions, publications, and educational programs, the organization has created a platform for community engagement and inquiry.
The SF Camerawork Auction is the centerpiece fundraising effort for the organization and a highlight of San Francisco’s photography collector calendar. The event centers on the live auction of over 100 photographic works donated by well-known artists from across the country, many represented by blue chip galleries such as Fraenkel Gallery and Yossi Milo Gallery, whose works are collected by national art museums including SFMoMA, MoMA New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and more. SF Camerawork produces a 30-page color auction catalog that is a collector’s item in itself. It is a lively event with wines donated from premier vineyards, and catering from top Bay Area chefs and restaurants. The 2014 SF Camerawork Benefit Auction takes place on Saturday, November 1. Doors open at 11 AM, and bidding will start at 1 PM. Tickets are $20 in advance, and $30 at the door.
