Sholeh Asgary + Michael Mersereau, "Spritetastic," 2015, mixed media, painting, installation and video, dimensions variable
Sholeh Asgary and Michael Mersereau bring into form an emergence of musings cultivated from strange objects. Cobbled together from stuffing found at Free Oakland UP, SPRITETASTIC! features small sculptural creatures populating a landscape of paintings, sculpture and video. Like notes passed back and forth, quiet moments become intimate exchanges of dialogue through a ghostly object environment.
Throughout the duration of the show, visitors are invited to create their own spritely creatures as tools to draw from. The ghostly contours and marks left behind become stamps of a larger collective presence built from each individual sprite.
Michael Mersereau is a multi-media artist and musician. Sholeh Asgary is a painter and photographer. Both artists received M.F.A.’s from Mills College in Oakland, CA and exhibit work throughout North America.
