Opening Reception: Friday, May 2, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. with live performance from 6:30 - 8:30 pm by local San Francisco choreographers/performers Erin Mei Ling Stuart and Hope Mohr with original video by local designer, David Szlasa.
Rise Above Print Shop and Gallery presents Katrina Rodabaugh's solo exhibition and interactive installation, Still Time for Us Together in the Woods. Rodabaugh’s mixed media artwork and interactive installation is a nuanced exploration of the intimacy in human relationships, as well as human-to-animal relationships, domesticity, and environment. Rodabaugh’s installation is an expansion from her artwork on paper into performance. Various interactive stations include: a photo booth with handmade animal masks, soft sculptures, an original video created by video and performance artist David Szlasa, and a reading station.
Based on a poetry manuscript written by Rodabaugh, her mixed media artwork uses personal and found vintage family photographs combined with altered images from children’s textbooks, embroidery, and applique to create the original mixed media artworks. The images engage themes of intimacy and distance in human and wilderness environments. Katrina’s exploration of human intimacy and how those values extend to relationships with animals and environment, be it the woods or urban sprawl, becomes an exchange between the audience and the artist herself in her multidisciplinary exhibition.
