Meridian Gallery will launch its new visual arts program, MERIDIAN STUDIO VISITS, on December 15, 2014 with an online exhibition of new works by Sylvia Sussman. Designed as a virtual exhibition series, MERIDIAN STUDIO VISITS offers viewers a rare behind-the-scenes look into intimate and often-hidden space of the artist's studio.
Meridian Gallery’s longtime curatorial collaborator Theres Rohan masterminded MERIDIAN STUDIO VISITS and describes her vision for the series in the following statement:
“As the visitor enters a museum, or equally, a gallery he or she finds a very polished product – the best work selected – spaced perfectly, lit perfectly. However, when the curator makes the visit to the artist’s studio things look often like minor chaos, the work stacked up or even tucked away. It is a particular thrill and privilege to unearth the most pivotal work and engage with the artist about ideas and process – failures and triumphs. This intimacy, this thrill is what I intend to bring to the viewer with this first edition of MERIDIAN STUDIO VISITS.”
This first edition of MERIDIAN STUDIO VISITS features a video of conversation between Sussman and curator Theres Rohan in the artist's studio in Berkeley.
