The evening begins with a VIP Reception in honor of Guillermo Gomez-Peña.
A contributor to Art Practical since 2011, Gómez-Peña is director of the performance art troupe La Pocha Nostra and a MacArthur "Genius" Fellow. He has sparked cultural debates for nearly 30 years staging seminal performance art pieces.
Gómez-Peña will perform a special rendition of Imaginary Activism, a brand new spoken word monologue that examines the role of the artist beyond the art world.
Seating is limited.
Then stay as the celebration continues with:
Master of Ceremonies Scott Vermeire.
Scott Vermeire’s abilities as a deadpan performer allow him to create characters that are absurd, threatening, and hilarious
Performances by Brontez Purnell and Dia Dear
With several movie roles, a book, a handful of zines, at least three bands, and multiple dance projects under his belt, Brontez Purnell is in many ways the Twenty-First-Century Black Renaissance Fag.
Dia Dear use trickery, sincerity, and pop culture to create emotionally visceral and visually fascinating images through live performance.
Music by La Pêche
An ensemble of young Bay Area musicians who come together to create an intoxicating blend of East European folkloric traditions and jazz & improvised performance.
Acrobalance performance by Marina Mendoza and Steven Delany.
