Time and Fragments Land and Sea presents Time and Fragments an exhibition of works by Joanna McClure and Chris Thorson. For both artists, creating is a necessary step in reconciling their interior and exterior worlds, and the poems and sculptures on view give form to reverie, absurdity, sensuality, and loss. The works, imprinted with precise observations, pause to affirm small moments from a continuously unfolding present. McClure’s original poems, handwritten on various papers, will be on display. From 12 – 4pm she will hold readings on the hour and she’ll share a poem any time upon request. Thorson will present new sculptures - deadpan replicas of keys, plastic bags, food, and clothing rendered in bronze, sterling silver, silk, and hydrocal. Joanna McClure has been part of the beat and hippie generation. Her new book "Catching Light" is a decade-by-decade arrangement of poems selected from the years 1950 thru 2000, recently published by North Atlantic Press. Her early elegant book "Wolf Eyes" will be available to purchase in the gallery. Chris Thorson has presented her work in solo exhibitions with Rena Bransten Gallery and Karl Hutter Fine Art and in group exhibitions at The Hessel Museum at Bard College, Southern Exposure, and Sonoma State University Art Gallery. She lives and works in Oakland and Napa.
