Classic Cars West is proud to present a site-specific installation and new works by Sawyer Rose. Both sculptural and painterly, her soldered metal and oil paint pieces draw inspiration from the local flora of California. Graphic forms of plants formed from molten metal stand boldly against the textured color of her panels. Using the texture of metals as her primary mark-making along with more traditional brushwork with oil, each floral form is within its field .
Rose’s work has evolved from sculptural panels to free-standing orbs that have also been armored in metal solder. The new seedlings of her practice are protected and tempered by metal marks reminiscent of bark and feathers. This new body of work explores Rose’s curiosity of the medium and fluctuations in form it can take.
Join us during Oakland Art Murmur’s Saturday Stroll guided walking tour on Saturday, February 21st, the artist will be present to demonstrate her unique metal working techniques and speak about the show.
About the Artist: Sawyer Rose lives and works in Fairfax, CA. She earned a Bachelors from Williams College and has been awarded residency at the Vermont Studio Center and the City of Fairfax. Her work has been shown throughout the Bay Area and is part of the permanent collections of Kaiser Permanente, Parthenon Capitol Partners and Bravanta.
We hope to see you there!
