Under Pressure Terryl Dunn: "Last Carrot" (2015), mixed media on wood panel, 60" x 70", (photo by Dana Davis)

Oakland artist Terryl Dunn presents new work inspired by the natural world and the future effects of climate change. Dunn draws from his experience in his garden. Observing the effects that water reduction has had on its inhabitants, the artist imagines how this might manifest in the future. In the works, surface textures erupt into shapes, jutting out of the picture plane. Texture and dimensionality indicate the ways in which, in the future, organic materials will calcify, condense and intensify. The result is work that simultaneously embodies humor and seriousness.

Terryl Dunn was born in Portland Oregon. He earned his BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art. He has shown his work in the Bay Area, Pacific Northwest, and New York. He currently resides and maintains a studio in Oakland, CA.
