Untitled (Speech and Attention): Binta Ayofemi

Part of the "Untitled (Speech and Attention)" series curated by Christian Nagler.

Binta will be speaking on street trees and economic latency, parks as early software, cutting and pasting the city, equivalence of semantic units, the Shakers and the Animals.

Binta Ayofemi explores latencies in everyday material. Her upcoming project at The New Museum is an artist-led plant materials lab and garden system. She is working on Software, a rehearsal of utopian forms from the Shakers to Soul Train, Untitled (Primary Structures) dance performances, and Pattern/Language, a series on Persian Textiles and funk music.

Ayofemi performed Voids/Latencies an anthology of urban landscapes at Theaster Gates' Huguenot House at Documenta 13. Her Garden/Score is a new set of urban gardens and tactile landscapes begun across adjacent lots in Chicago's South Side neighborhood. Ayofemi was awarded a Harvard Design Fellowship for her research on urban landscape, Islamic gardens and architecture as both space and surface material. In 2013, Ayofemi collaborated on original code that turns cascades of Tumblr images in to music. Ayofemi has presented her work at Kadist Art Foundation, The Wattis Institute, Berkeley Art Museum and Asian Art Museum.

Christian Nagler is curating three "Untitled (Space and Attention)" talks as part of a residency at Real Time & Space. 125 10th St. Oakland. Close to the Lake Merritt Bart. A block away from the Oakland Museum. Ample street parking.

The audience is asked to create some conditions of attention: to depart for the event in silence, and to arrive in silence.

We would love to see you there!
