Carey Lin, Nobody Said Not To, work-in-progress, 2016
Through her eclectic style of painting, sculpture and wall drawing, San Francisco-based artist Carey Lin will build a responsive, immersive installation at Irving Street Projects by culling patterns from community participants, friends, acquaintances, and her day-to-day life. To build the installation, Lin has invited the public to bring items to be photographed and small objects to be traced for inclusion in the installation. Contributors can share imagery on Instagram using the hashtag #nobodysaidnotto. Throughout its run, Nobody Said Not To will serve as a platform for thinking about artistic intention, hierarchies of visual culture, and in the most basic terms, why we make art. Lin’s playful, obsessive, energetic studio practice stems from a critical investigation of the creative impulse.
