Jalal Poehlman New Paintings

You are cordially invited to a painting exhibition of works by artist Jalal Poehlman at Gruenwald Press in San Francisco, CA from 5pm to 8:30pm, Saturday Oct. 1st. This pop-up exhibition features mixed media paintings that Poehlman describes as geometric and gestural portraits, meant to function as a mirror reflection of the viewer. Poehman sculpted caricatures of ornate baroque frames to focus and contextualize these artworks. Frame and painting are united as singular works of art in these challenging constructions. Jalal Poehlman is a Milwaukee-born artist working quietly in Los Angeles since leaving the VCU MFA program in 1999. Poehlman has not exhibited in a solo show since 2000, but has selflessly chosen to not abandon the 21st century and has organized two unique independent exhibitions of new work for this fall season. Showing work at Gruenwald Press holds personal meaning for Poehman. John Gruenwald had been an art school friend of Jalal’s late father, and he has long held a strong childhood memory of meeting John in his expansive Milwaukee warehouse studio. That brief early exposure to art and bohemian life made a positive and lasting impression. Jalal is incredibly thankful to John for offering to host him for this evening and for his emotional and intellectual generosity. For further information please contact Jalal Poehlman at Poehlman@gmail.com or at (213) 344-9692. Poehlman is also exhibiting in Los Angeles, opening on November 12th @ Daily Dose Gallery 1820 Industrial St #104, Los Angeles, CA 90021
