Jessalyn Aaland, Mutually Reinforcing Cascade of Failure, 2016, paper and vinyl on bristol, 20" x 20"
Join us at our opening reception for artist Jessalyn Aaland's newest body of work, Options in Life. Jessalyn Aaland’s paper and vinyl collages and installations use shape, texture, and color to explore how joy and humor can nurture a sense of possibility and resilience. Her work has been exhibited in the U.S. and abroad, including at Swarm Gallery in Oakland, San Francisco City Hall, and Narwhal Projects in Toronto. Her work is held in numerous private collections, both nationally and internationally. Jessalyn has been an artist-in-residence at People’s Gallery in San Francisco, and most recently, at Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park. She is based in West Oakland, CA From layered, sculptural piles of succulents and ferns to still lifes of leaves and mysterious objects, Jessalyn’s works on paper create a sense of humorous ambiguity. Each of the six new works in this exhibition was created in 2016. The artwork will be on view at Western Relics through July 24th. http://www.aalandisland.com/
