Abraham in Flames Ahmad Shamlou, 1925-2000.

Special Sneak Preview of an Operatic Work-in-Progress by Niloufar Talebi

Free and open to the public

As part of its 50th Anniversary celebration, Intersection for the Arts presents a multimedia libretto event of Abraham in Flames, a chamber opera by librettist and award-winning translator Niloufar Talebi, inspired by the iconic Iranian poet, Ahmad Shamlou (1925-2000), on the fifteenth anniversary year of his passing. Nominated for the Nobel prize, Shamlou lived a life of unflinching courage against a backdrop of dramatic historical events, and changed the course of Iranian poetics. Talebi's original libretto of Abraham in Flames is inspired by Shamlou's life, poetry, controversial speeches, and prison and love letters. This opera is the third installment in Talebi's "Persian Opera Cycle,” the first two of which have premiered at the Kennedy Center and in New York City
